Samsung VP Confirms Galaxy Note 8.0 Will Be Unveiled At MWC, Galaxy S IV ‘Soon’
Samsung Mobile vice president JK Shin has confirmed to a Korean news outlet that the company will unveil the Galaxy Tab 8.0 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. The device, which is believed to be an iPad mini competitor, is expected to offer an 8-inch display with a 1280×800 resolution, coupled with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor.
We first heard about the Galaxy Note 8.0 last week. Although Samsung hasn’t confirmed its specifications, here’s what you can expect, according to trusted sources for SamMobile:
- Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
- 8-inch display with 1280×800 resolution
- 1.6GHz quad-core processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB/32GB of internal storage
- microSD card slot
- 4,600 mAh battery
- S Pen
- 5-megapixel rear-facing camera
- 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera
- Bluetooth 4.0
- GPS
The Galaxy Note 8.0 isn’t a high-end tablet, then, but it isn’t supposed to be. It appears Samsung is hoping to compete with the hugely successful iPad mini, and as we know, that’s not high-end, either. But if the specifications above are accurate, then the Galaxy Note 8.0 will be better on paper, at least.
Its display is slightly larger and boasts a slightly better resolution, and ir has a quad-core processor that should be a little snappier than the iPad mini’s dual-core chip. Of course, this cannot be confirmed until Samsung makes the device official. Cult of Android will be at MWC next month, so we’ll bring you that news as soon as we have it.
As for the Galaxy S IV, that won’t be unveiled at MWC — as we suspected — but it will be arriving “soon,” Shin said.
