PopCap Announces Plants Vs. Zombies 2 Will Launch This Summer
Given the success of the original Plants vs. Zombies game, which first landed on iOS almost three years ago, I’m surprised we don’t already have a sequel. But there is one on the way. PopCap has announced that Plants vs. Zombies 2 will be launching early this summer.
That’s the good news. The bad news is, we don’t know much about it. You see, PopCap, which is now owned by EA, made the announcement in a press release for Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, a new social adaptation of the original game that’s now available in a limited beta on Facebook.
The only mention of Plants vs. Zombies 2 in that press release is this:
This marks the second imminent new installment in the Plants vs. Zombies franchise, as PopCap also confirmed today that Plants vs. Zombies 2, the sequel to the original blockbuster game, is slated to launch in early summer.
That’s it. We’re guessing the game will be much the same as the original, but with new levels, new zombies, and new plants. And because it’s now a product of EA, we’re also assuming it’ll be free-to-play, but with plenty of in-app purchases for additional content — just like EA’s latest mobile release, Real Racing 3.
If Plants vs. Zombies 2 is launching early this summer, then there’s only a couple of months of waiting to endure, and EA should provide us with more information on the game soon enough. In the meantime, you can now get your Plants vs. Zombies fix on Facebook.
