Yahoo! Acquires Astrid, A Task Management App For Android & iOS

Just over a month after acquiring Summly for $30 million, Yahoo! has gobbled up another smartphone app. This time it’s Astrid, a pretty task management client for Android and iOS, which has a strong focus on sharing. Astrid announced the news on its blog today.

“We are thrilled to announce that we have been acquired by Yahoo!,” the statement reads. “When we set out to build Astrid, we sought to help as many people as possible become happier, healthier and more productive. We’re really excited to join the mobile team and continue this work with Yahoo!’s goal of ‘making the world’s daily habits more inspiring and entertaining.'”

Astrid will continue to function as normal for the next 90 days — Yahoo! won’t be closing it instantly like it did with Summly — allowing its 4 million users to move there tasks elsewhere. The company says it will be in touch with users to inform them how they can download their data.

It’s unclear what will happen to the service after that, but it seems Astrid won’t remain as it is for long; Yahoo! will be providing refunds to eligible users who have purchased annual subscriptions and service add-ons, suggesting major changes are on the way.

Yahoo! was quick to put its acquisition of Summly to good use, integrating the news summarization service into the Yahoo! apps for Android and iOS just weeks after the acquisition was announced. Hopefully we’ll see another quick turn around with Astrid, then.
