This Is How Beautiful Instagram Should Be On Android [Download]
Android hasn’t always been one of the prettiest mobile platforms, but thanks to the design changes Google has made in recent years, it is now. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for some third-party Android apps.
Take Instagram, for example. It still looks like an exact port of Instagram’s iOS app from 2012, and it doesn’t make any efforts to follow Google’s “Holo” design guidelines for the more recent versions of Android. If it did, it could look pretty fantastic — as these fan-made mockups demonstrate.
Designed by Holofication Nation — a two-man team “making everyday apps holo” — these mockups show just how beautiful Instagram could be with a few design tweaks. The aging buttons and navigation bars have been replaced by cleaner, flatter ones, and the app supports the transparent status and navigation bars introduced with KitKat.
Instagram has already made some of these design changes for its new iPhone app to better fit iOS 7’s new look, so it probably wouldn’t be too difficult to do the same for Android. But in the meantime, you can download and use Holofication Nation’s version of the app for free.
The team has also revamped some other third-party Android apps, including Steam, Snapchat, and Grooveshark. You can download these by following the source link to the XDA Developers forum below.
