Netflix stopping ‘unblockers’ accessing content from other countries
In news that is sure to disappoint some, Netflix is cracking down on customers who use proxies or “unblockers” to trick the streaming video service into thinking they’re in a different country as a way of accessing extra content.
David Fullagar, Netflix’s Vice President of Content Delivery Architecture, writes that the company is, “making progress in licensing content across the world,” but there remains “a ways to go before we can offer people the same films and TV series everywhere.”
Prior to that happening, those using proxies and unblockers will soon only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are. “We are confident this change won’t impact members not using proxies,” Fullagar writes.
The change will take place in the “coming weeks,” although a specific date isn’t given. Time for sneaky customers to arrange a few marathon viewing sessions for soon-to-disappear material, perhaps?
