The Budget Tablet Arena Is About To Heat Up: Amazon And Barnes & Noble Gearing Up For New Releases
As the holiday season slowly approaches, the war for budget tablet supremacy is heating up. While the Nexus 7 is hands down the king of budget at this time, market pioneers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble don’t plan on idly sitting by. Both companies are beginning to prepare for their upcoming models as they discount and discontinue current models.
If you head over to Amazon’s Kindle page, you’ll notice numerous models either delayed, discounted, unavailable, or simply missing. It’s an obvious sign of things to come (whatever they may be) and we can’t wait to see what the company that sparked the budget tablet revolution has for us next.
Barnes & Noble is in the same boat, as they have just begun discounting their NOOK stock. The Nook Color and 8GB Nook Tablet both dropped $20 in price to $149 and $179 respectively, while the 16GB Nook Tablet is now $199. Those Nook Tablet prices would be considered steals if it weren’t for the existence of the Nexus 7. With such stiff competition now, I can’t help but wonder what’s in store for the future of the NOOK line.
What would you guys like to see from these two companies? What can they do to disrupt the tablet market once more: even cheaper tablets or $199 tablets with insane specs?
This holiday season should be interesting.
