Angry Birds Series Still Sees More Than 200 Million Active Users A Month
It’s been nearly three years since Rovio’s first Angry Birds game made its debut on iOS devices, and you might have thought that interest in the series may have died down a little in that time. But you’d be very wrong indeed. According to the Finnish firm, Angry Birds games still see more than 200 million active users every single month.
“In any given day, we have 20-30 million people playing our games connected,” Rovio’s executive vice president, Andrew Stalbow, told attendees at the MIPCOM conference in Cannes. “And in any given month, we have up to 200 million people playing our games.”
That may seem like a relatively small number given that Angry Birds games have now been downloaded more than 1 billion times. However, when you compare it to the 306 million monthly users Zynga enjoys across its entire lineup, I think it’s pretty impressive.
And it’s about to receive a big boost: Earlier this week, Rovio announced that it had struck a deal with LucasFilm to launch Angry Birds Star Wars, which is scheduled to make its debut on Android and iOS on November 8. That’s sure to be a big hit among Angry Birds fans and Star Wars fanatics.
Then there’s Bad Piggies, of course, Rovio’s latest venture. That made its debut late last month, and it took just three hours to hit the top of the iOS App Store’s paid chart. Unsurprisingly, Rovio has insisted it will be investing heavily in this series next year.
“You’ll see a lot of focus from us in the next year on expanding the Bad Piggies franchise,” Stalbow said.
