Games I’ve Been Playing: Ski Safari, Dead Trigger, Granny Smith And More…
If you’re like me, you enjoy a good game or two (when you have time for it) and are always on the lookout for any new or interesting titles to play. Whether you like FPS games, puzzlers, or platformers, it can be quite a daunting task trying to choose from the hundreds of thousands of games available in the Google Play Store. One way to stumble across great games is to see what others are playing. I may not get as much time to play games as I’d like, but I can certainly share with you what games I do play. We all have different tastes and not all games will suit all people, but here’s a list of a few games I’ve been playing lately.
Ski Safari
Ski Safari has been out for a couple months now so you may or may not have had the chance to try it out. If you haven’t, it’s an avalanche of fun. This endless ski game has your character — and the wildlife — trying to stay ahead of a menacing avalanche. Ride skis, snowmobiles, penguins, whatever is available in order to stay ahead of the pack. Collect coins and complete objectives to level up and unlock all sorts of fun rewards and power-ups.
Everything about this game is cheerful. From bright colored graphics to catchy background music, it’s cute, fun, challenging, and worth every penny of its $0.99 price tag. You can start your mountainside adventure by hitting up the link below.

Dead Trigger
Dead Trigger is a FPS action game full of Zombie carnage. MadFinger games made waves when they made Dead Trigger a free-to-play game due to accusations of rampant piracy. It appears dropping the price was a smart move because the game has now been downloaded by millions of people.
The game itself has its positives and negatives. Graphics are great but the extended effects on Tegra 3 devices are amazing. Gameplay is fast and action packed in the beginning, but soon becomes monotonous due to a short story line. You’ll soon find yourself simply completing side missions for cash and items. Leveling up and obtaining new guns and items becomes the only reason to play.
It’s a shame because all they need to do is extend the storyline to keep players interested. I’ve enjoyed playing the game up until about level 35, now I’m bored. Hopefully they will add to the story soon.
The game is free so it’s definitely worth the download. You’ll have more than enough fun blasting heads and dismembering the undead. And for those of you that have a Wii Classic controller, you can check out my tutorial on how to use it to play Dead Trigger.

Granny Smith
Granny Smith is a vibrant comical creation that’s fun for all ages. This racing platformer has Granny Smith strapping on her roller skates and braving obstacles and crashes in order to stop the apple stealing boy next door. Flip, swing, and slide Granny through 36 levels, trying to collect 3 apples per level and all the coins your old lady purse can handle. Unlock characters and useful items and keep the theatrics going.
This game is perfect for anyone and well worth its $0.99 price tag. It’s a bit easy for the seasoned gamer and won’t take too long to finish. I’ve finished it already and now I’m just waiting on Mediocre to add a few more challenging levels and then I’ll pick it back up again.
[Update 10/13] Looks like Mediocre was listening as they just updated Granny Smith with 12 new space levels!

Broken Sword: Director’s Cut
Broken Sword: Director’s Cut is a game I probably would have never thought to download if it wasn’t for its inclusion in Google Play’s 25 Billion Downloads promotion. I got the app for $0.25 but it has a regular price tag of $3.99.
This adventure game has you playing the part of eager journalist turned mystery solver after witnessing a murder at the Palais Royale. You’ll find yourself looking for clues, solving puzzles, and slowly unraveling the mystery behind an evil conspiracy.
Before Broken Sword: Director’s Cut, it had been a long time since I had played a mystery adventure game and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed them. I’m still in the middle of this one so I don’t quite know how it will turn out. However, what I do know, is I’m enjoying every minute of it. The graphics leave something to be desired but the storyline and gameplay are great. Well worth the $3.99 — especially if you enjoy mystery adventure.

Monsters Ate My Condo
This last one I’ve been playing off and on but my 6-year old daughter seems to absolutely love it. This Adult Swim game brings color, high-rise Jenga/Match 3 style gameplay, and magical unicorn monsters to your Android device. What more could you ask for? Personally, I’m a little bored of it now but it still makes for a quick pick-up-and-play time waster. And again, my daughter loves it (because there’s a unicorn of course). You could certainly do a lot worse for $0.99.

These games are a taste of what’s been occupying the very few moments of free time I get. Hopefully you see a game you haven’t tried out yet and find it as enjoyable as I may have. Otherwise, stay tuned for future “Games I’ve Been Playing” and feel free to throw me some suggestions.
Game on!
