Purported Nexus 5 Looks A Little Too Much Like A Fan-Made Mockup

Could we be seeing the Nexus 5? According to an anonymous source that claims they work for Google, this is it. It’s a device equipped with the latest cutting-edge technology that promises to be the smartphone to beat for 2013. To us, it looks more like a fanboy’s mockup.

The anonymous source has leaked an image of what they claim is the Nexus 5. The source said that the device will appear in October 2013, and that Google is currently evaluating several prototypes from different manufacturers. The source also said that one of the companies with their hand in the development is LG — which produces the Nexus 4 — which is working on the project under the top-secret code name ”Megalodon.”

It is rumored that the handset will have a 5.2-inch Full HD OLED display, a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a 3300mAh battery, and a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation that can shoot 4K video. The Nexus 5 will obviously be running Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) straight out of the box.

The source also claimed that the Nexus 5 will have a Nikon-branded rear-facing camera, featuring three sensors that combine to provide you with better images.

Again, a lot of this information seems a little farfetched to us, and more like a fanboy’s dream than an actual smartphone. What’s more, Google’s isn’t known for ridiculously high-end hardware.

The Galaxy Nexus was impressive, but it was hardly groundbreaking, and the same can be said about the Nexus 4. It’s a terrific device and it has great specifications, but they aren’t amazing specifications. It doesn’t even have LTE.
