Vine Creators Promise Android App ‘Soon’
When Vine began posting job listings for Android developers, we had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before the app’s exclusivity to iOS was broken and it was introduced to Google Play. Now the app’s creators have confirmed that the popular video sharing service will be coming to Android “soon.”
For those unfamiliar with Vine, it’s kind of like an Instagram for video. User can record short, six-second clips and then post them online so that they can be viewed by friends and followers. The service has already been a huge success on iOS, with millions of downloads helping it become the number one free app in the U.S. App Store.
There was no doubt the service would eventually come to Android, then, the only question was “when?”
During an interview with The Verge, Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann confirmed that a Vine app for Android would be available “soon.” He wasn’t more specific, unfortunately, so we don’t have an exact date. But for those itching to see Vine in Google Play, this is great news.
