Nokia Announces Aluminum-Clad Lumia 925 As It Steps Up Fight Against Apple & Samsung
Nokia has today announced the Lumia 925, a new Windows Phone flagship that will be hoping to steal market share away from Apple and Samsung in 2013. The device boasts an aluminum frame and offers an 8.7-megapixel rear-facing PureView camera — both of which are firsts for Nokia’s Windows Phone devices.
Other specifications include a 4.5-inch OLED display with a 1280×768 resolution, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. There’s also a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calling and taking “selfies.”
The Lumia 925 weighs 139 grams and measures just 8.5mm thick. It sports an aluminum frame with a polycarbonate rear panel, and of course a glass display. It’s not quite as colorful as its predecessors, but it certainly offers a more premium look and feel.
Nokia will be hoping that this premium feel gives the Lumia 925 a better chance of competing with devices like the iPhone 5, and indeed the new HTC One. This is the Finnish firm’s latest attempt to steal market share away from the likes of Apple and Samsung, which it has struggled to do with its Windows Phone devices so far.
Whether the new materials and slightly better specifications can actually persuade Android and iOS users to switch to Microsoft’s platform remains to be seen. Would you give up your iPhone or Android-powered smartphone to get Nokia’s new Lumia?
If you answered “yes,” then look out for the Lumia 925 in China, the U.K., Germany, Italy, and Spain this June, priced at €469.
