NVIDIA Shield Delayed A Day Before It Goes On Sale
The Android-powered NVIDIA Shield console has been delayed a day before it was set to go on sale. Gamers should have been able to pick up the device from today, but NVIDIA announced on Wednesday that due to a “mechanical issue” with one of the handheld’s components, it will now go on sale sometime in July.
“The issue relates to a third-party mechanical component, and we’re working around the clock with the supplier to get it up to our expectations,” said NVIDIA’s Jason Paul. The company hasn’t been more specific than that, so we’re not sure which component has become a problem.
However, it’s a shame that NVIDIA left it until the day before the handheld launches to announce the issue. Just last week the company dropped the price of the Shield from $349 to $299 ahead of its launch, which meant demand for the device became even greater.
NVIDIA has apologized to those affected by the delay, but that’s unlikely to mean much to those who pre-ordered and were looking forward to seeing the Shield on their doorstep this morning.
