Asus Accidentally Ships New 4G LTE Nexus 7 In China
Google hasn’t begun selling the new 4G LTE Nexus 7 yet — it hasn’t even confirmed when it will be selling it — but it appears Asus may have shipped some units accidentally in China. One man was delighted to find that the 32GB Wi-Fi only model he ordered was actually a 32GB 4G LTE model when he pulled it out of the box.
“CrazyFreely” posted pictures of the device to Chinese social network Baidu Tieba, showing off its SIM card slot, the included SIM eject tool, and the HSPA+ icon in its status bar — there’s certainly no question about whether this really is a 4G LTE model, then.
But how did CrazyFreely get it? Well, he claims he simply ordered a 32GB Wi-Fi only model, and this one turned up instead. It’s the scenario everybody dreams of when they order a new gadget — that they’ll pay for a cheaper model and get the high-end one instead.
It’s unclear whether this mix-up is a one-off, or whether an entire batch was labeled incorrectly. But at the moment, it doesn’t seem as though anyone else is reporting the same thing.
