Google Fixes New Nexus 7’s Multitouch Issues With Software Update
A pesky multitouch bug affecting the new Nexus 7 is no more, thanks to a new software update that is being rolled out by Google this week. There were concerns that the problem may have been related to hardware — given that it didn’t affect all Nexus 7 tablets — but the “JSS15J” release that’s being issued over-the-air promises to eliminate it.
It also addresses an issue with GPS sensitivity, too.“There’s a new system update that’s started rolling out for your Nexus 7s,” writes Google community manager Paul Wilcox in a forum discussion on the topic. “This update does address the touchscreen issues discussed in this thread. If you’re one of the people experiencing touchscreen issues, please let us know how it’s going after you’ve received and installed the update.”
The problem caused the Nexus 7 to “freak out” when using certain multitouch gestures, and it made certain tasks — like playing games — near impossible. It’s not completely clear what caused it, but hopefully it’s not something we’ll need to worry about anymore.
The fix, which also addresses a GPS problem, comes less than a week after the Nexus 7 is set to go on sale in the U.K. It’s likely going to be too late for U.K.-bound tablets to have the update pre-installed, so if you’ll be picking one up next week, be sure to look our for the fix when you’ve finished setting up your new tablet.
