Samsung Exec Confirms Galaxy S4 Will Get Galaxy Gear Support Next Month
Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch went on sale in Europe this week, but if you want to buy one, you’ll need a Galaxy Note 3 or the latest Galaxy Tab 10.1 to go with it, because they’re the only devices that currently support it. But you may not be surprised to hear that Samsung’s working hard to bring Galaxy Gear support to its latest flagship, too.
One company executive has revealed that the Galaxy S4 will be updated to support Galaxy Gear in October.
DJ Lee, Samsung’s president of strategic marketing for mobile, told attendees at a press conference in Korea this week that the Galaxy S4 will get Galaxy Gear support “next month.” He also revealed that its predecessors, the Galaxy S III, as well as the Galaxy Note II, will also support the device by the end of the year.
Lee also said that Samsung is preparing to launch a new smartphone with a curved glass display next month, which will be part of its “efforts to develop devices that haven’t existed before.” That’s certainly more commendable than waiting for Apple to release something special and then shamelessly copying it, isn’t it.
“For Samsung, a smartphone with a curved glass display represents our resolve to level up in terms of the intensity of innovation,” Lee said.
Samsung has already released a number of devices this year — including flagships like the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3. But the South Korean company is yet to really wow us with something special (unless you’re really turned on by the Galaxy Gear, of course).
Hopefully its new curved glass smartphone will do that.
