Developers Ports Galaxy Note 3 Apps To The Galaxy S4

While the Galaxy Note 3’s massive display may not be for you, you may wish to run some of the handset’s built-in apps on your smaller Galaxy S4. Fortunately, there are developers out there who are hard at work porting them over, and you can download and install a number of them now.

The ports come from XDA Developers member “LastStandingDroid,” who has pulled the original apps from a Galaxy Note 3 system dump. These are genuine Samsung apps, then — not third-party fakes skinned to look like the real thing. Not all of the apps work seamlessly yet, though.

The new My Files, Bloomberg+, Galaxy S Finder, and Calculator apps run without any hiccups — as do the Active Apps and alarm widgets and the new wallpaper chooser. The new Camera app also works fine if your Galaxy S4 is running the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software.

However, other apps like S Health, Samsung Wallet, Sketchbook, and Gallery still need a little work before they are Galaxy S4 compatible, but hopefully we’ll see them soon.

Installing the apps is as easy as copying them to your device, changing their permissions, and then opening them up — but you’ll need to ensure you’ve enabled the ability to install apps from unknown sources within your Settings app.
