The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch is currently only compatible with the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4, but of course, if Samsung wants to get it into as many hands as possible, it’s going to need to change that. So it’s no surprise to see it will soon be compatible with the rest of the Galaxy S4 variants, and the Galaxy Mega as well.

Samsung has today announced that Galaxy Gear will soon support the Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy Mega 5.8, and Galaxy Mega 6.3. The company will issue software updates to these devices “beginning at the end of October.”

“Extending Galaxy Gear compatibility to more Galaxy devices reflects our deep commitment to continuing to deliver enriched mobile experiences to our consumers,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of Samsung’s IT & Mobile division, in a press release today.

“Through a significant effort to enhance and enrich the Galaxy experience, Samsung continues to empower our users in their mobile lives and enable smart freedom with Galaxy Gear.”

The Galaxy Note 3, which launched alongside the Galaxy Gear, was first to offer Galaxy Gear support, and it was joined by the Galaxy S4 earlier this month when the handset’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update made its debut in Germany. Once the other handset’s receive their updates, Galaxy Gear will support nine devices in total.
