Canadian Carrier Prematurely Reveals Nexus 5’s Impressive Specifications
While we’ve seen plenty of pictures of the upcoming Nexus 5 in recent weeks, we had been waiting for Google to unveil its full list of specifications during its long-awaited Android 4.4 KitKat event. But thanks to Canadian carrier Wind Mobile, the wait is over.
The company has prematurely erected its Nexus 5 pre-registration page on Facebook, which reveals the Nexus 5’s impressive list of specifications.
Most of these specifications had been mentioned in recent reports, but it’s nice to see something official confirming them. So, here’s what you can expect from the device:
- 4.95-inch 1080p display with 445 pixels-per-inch
- 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor
- 2GB of RAM
- 16GB or 32GB of internal storage
- 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization
- 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera
- Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac
- NFC
- Bluetooth 4.0
The Nexus 5 will be the first device to run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, but until Google finally holds its event, it’s not completely clear what that update will bring. We have seen a number of KitKat screenshots that show some of the changes and improvements, however.
That’s a great list of specifications for a high-end smartphone — especially one that’s likely to be significantly cheaper than rivals like the Galaxy S4, the HTC One, the LG G2, and the Sony Xperia Z1.
The only thing Wind doesn’t tell us is when the Nexus 5 will make its big debut, so that’s still a mystery at this point, but we have a feeling the device is right around the corner.
AndroidPolice recently published two images (below) that suggest the launch will be imminent; the first shows boxes full of Nexus 5 units waiting to be dispatched from a Canadian LG distribution center, while the second shows 1,500 white devices listed in a Carphone Warehouse U.K. database.
