Google — today — extended its Google Play edition program to Android tablets by unveiling the GPe variants of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra and the LG G Pad 8.3. Both the devices are already up for sale in the United States Play Store with shipping times of 1-2 days.

The Sony Z Ultra is a hybrid between a tablet and a phone with a humungous 6.44-inch screen and telephony functionality built-in. Internally, the Z Ultra packs in quite a punch with a Snapdragon S800 processor, 2GB of RAM, microSD card slot, an 8MP Exmor RS sensor and a 3000mAh non-removable battery. The device also supports quad-band EDGE, penta-band 3G and LTE support and is waterproof and dust-resistant as well.

The LG G Pad 8.3, on the other hand, packs in an 8.3-inch screen with Full HD (1200*1920) resolution. Other specs of the tablet include a Snapdragon S600 processor, 2GB of RAM, a microSD card slot and a 4600mAh internal battery.

Both the Google Play edition devices are running on Android 4.4 KitKat, and will come with an easily unlockable bootloader. Even though the Z Ultra runs on stock Android, it comes with some of Sony’s enhancements like a TRILUMINOS display, an X-Realuty mobile picture engine and Exmor RS sensor.

The Sony Z Ultra can be purchased from the Play Store for $649, while the LG G Pad 8.3 can be yours for $349.
