New Gmail Update Adds Vacation Responder, Wireless Printing & More

Gmail-47

Google is rolling out a new update to its official Gmail client for Android, adding a vacation responder, support for wireless printing in Android 4.4 KitKat, the ability to attach any file to an email, and a number of other new features.

With the new vacation responder, you can set up an automated reply to emails that you receive while you’re away. Simply turn it on, set a start and end date, and then write a subject and a message. You can also specify whether your automated reply is sent to everyone, or only people included in your contacts list.

Sure, we’ve been able to do this from our desktops since Gmail’s inception, but now you don’t need a desktop to set it up.

“If you forget to set a vacation responder as you scramble to pack for a flight, you’re in luck since you can now create or update an auto responder message right in the Gmail app on Android,” Google says in its announcement.

Those running Android 4.4 KitKat will also find support for wireless printing in Gmail 4.7. You can print individual emails or entire threads, and then specify whether you want your print in color or black and white, portrait or landscape, and how many copies you’d like.

Google has also added the ability to download and attach all kinds of file types, including ZIP files (finally!), PDFs, Microsoft Office documents, and more. The company also promises faster performance

Gmail 4.7 is rolling out now via Google Play. Like all Google app updates, it will come in phases, so if you don’t have it yet, you will receive it soon.
