Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Gets A Price Cut Before Launching In The U.K.
Sony unveiled the Xperia Z1 Compact, which is a scaled-down variant of its current flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1, at the Consumer Electronics Show two weeks ago in Las Vegas, and although we can’t actually get our hands on the device just yet here in the United Kingdom, the U.K.-based online retailer, Clove Technology, slashed £30 off the Z1 Compact’s original pre-order price today — meaning you’ll be able to grab Sony’s latest Android smartphone for £399.
Competitors in the U.K. are currently listing the handset for £449.95, which is a whopping £50 more than Clove is charging for the handset, making it the cheapest independent retailer in the U.K. However, if you wish to take advantage of Clove’s offer, you will have to wait a little longer for the Z1 Compact to be shipped to your door. Carphone Warehouse promises that it will start shipping the device on January 31, whereas Clove simply says the device is set to be despatched in the U.K. in February’.
In terms of specifications, the mid-to-high range smartphone will pack a 4.3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, a Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset powered by four 2.2GHz central processing units, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64GB via microSD), an Adreno 330 GPU, a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera equipped with optical image stabilization and a 2,300 mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery.
Straight out of the box the Z1 Compact is expected to run the latest build of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Sony’s X-Reality custom user interface plastered over the top, but its rumored to be receiving the much-anticipated 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade in the not-too-distant future by way of an OTA.
