Still waiting for your carrier to release Android 4.4.2 KitKat for your Galaxy S4? Well, you can take matters into your own hands if you don’t mind installing pre-release firmware, thanks to a new Android 4.4.2 test build that’s available to download now.

As is often the case, this release comes from SamMobile, and sports build number “I9505XXUFNAD.” It carries everything you’d expect from an official Android 4.4.2 release for the Galaxy S4, including KitKat-style status and navigation bars with white icons, a slight performance boost, a camera shortcut on the lock screen, and an improved Samsung keyboard.

There are also some core Android changes in this release, such as support for Google Cloud Print, new Emojis, the ability to select Hangouts as your default messaging app, and the option to change default launcher from within system settings.

Because this is pre-release software, it may not be completely stable, but you shouldn’t run into any major problems that will effect day-to-day performance of the device. It will not increase your handset’s binary counter nor void its warranty, but it will wipe its data, so make sure you backup before installing.
