Samsung ‘Galaxy Gear Fit’ Health Tracker To Get MWC Unveiling [Rumor]
While the Galaxy S5 will be the star of the show during Samsung’s Unpacked 5 event in Barcelona on Monday, we could see a slew of different devices across several product categories — one of which could be a brand new health tracker called the “Galaxy Gear Fit,” according to a new report.
K0rean news outlet MK reports that “will showcase the Galaxy Gear Fit equipped with a flexible display as a trick up the sleeve” during its Unpacked 5 event on Monday. The device is expected to be similar to the original Galaxy Gear, but in place of a camera, the device will have new sensors that will monitor activity and sleep.
The Galaxy Gear Fit hopes to compete with products like the Nike FuelBand and the Fitbit Flex, MK reports, and it will reportedly go on sale alongside the Galaxy S5 this April (though other reports have claimed the device will be available in mid-March).
It’s unclear whether the device will run Android, or whether this will be the new Tizen-powered Galaxy Gear we heard about earlier this week. It certainly seems to make more sense for Samsung to put Tizen on this model rather than its flagship smartwatch while the platform is still in its infancy.
Samsung is also planning to unveil its Galaxy Gear 2 alongside the Galaxy Gear Fit, MK claims, while we’re also expecting to see new Galaxy Tab 4 tablets.
