Amazon’s New Set-Top Box To Arrive Next Month [Rumor]
It has long been claimed that Amazon would eventually breach into the home entertainment segment with its very own set-top box, and the latest rumors claim that the device could finally be here as early as next month.
The retail giant has reportedly delayed the launch of the device several times in the past, but March will finally see its arrive, according to sources who have been speaking to Recode.
Industry sources say Amazon is getting ready to launch a Web TV box that would compete with Apple TV and Roku’s line of products, which make it easy to move video from the Internet onto your TV.
People I’ve talked to who are partnering with Amazon believe the company is aiming for a March rollout.
Amazon is already well settled in the retail business with its Kindle Fire tablets, so a launch of a home set top box does make sense. There has been talk of an Amazon-branded gaming device as well, so maybe Amazon will merge the two features with its new set top box.
It is said that this new device will run a modified version of Android, much like its Kindle Fire series of tablets.
