OnePlus One Gets Snapdragon 801 Processor Upgrade
The upcoming OnePlus One has been upgraded ahead of its release with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 801 processor.
The handset was to launch with its predecessor, the Snapdragon 800, but it’ll now boast the same CPU that powers the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Sony Xperia Z2, and the All New HTC One.
When OnePlus began announcing specifications for its new smartphone earlier this month, potential customers were somewhat disappointed that it would feature the aging Snapdragon 800 chip that graced last year’s flagship handsets.
While the Snapdragon 800 is still a terrific performer today, those buying a flagship smartphone that they’re likely to own for at least two years expect the latest and greatest technology. And now OnePlus customers are going to get it.
The company today updated its cover photo on Google+ with the graphic above, which clearly states its upcoming smartphone will carry Qualcomm’s latest quad-core system-on-chip, the Snapdragon 801.
That will be accompanied by a 3,100mAh battery, a 5.5-inch 108p display, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. The One will also have interchangeable “StyleSwap” back covers, similar to those sold by Motorola for the Moto X and Moto G.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about the OnePlus One yet, but given that it’s second-quarter launch is fast approaching, we expect to see further announcements very soon.
