Verizon’s HTC One (M8) Gets Rooted Thanks To WeakSauce
It was only last week that HTC announced the new HTC One (M8) with immediate availability in Verizon stores. However, like any other Verizon device, the One (M8) also comes with a locked down bootloader that makes find a rooting process for the device a very challenging task.
Nevertheless, thanks to the hard work of Jon and beaups, owners of the brand new One (M8) from Verizon can now gain root access on their handset via WeakSauce.
The steps are pretty simple and only require Verizon One (M8) owners to install this WeakSauce APK and then tap the ‘root’ option. After a minute of pressing the button, head over to the Play Store and install SuperSU to enjoy root access on the handset.
The rooting process works via an exploit in the firmware and does not require the user to unlock the bootloader on the handset. As a bonus, WeakSauce can also root the previous gen HTC One (M7) from Verizon. The only catch here is that the root access only starts working after a minute or so of the handset being rebooted.
If you do end up rooting your One (M8) using the above procedure, make sure not to accept any future software updates from Verizon or HTC as they might fix the exploit and break root access. Owners of other carriers and unlocked variants of HTC One (M8) can simply use the official bootloader unlocking tool from HTC to unlock and root their handset.
