PayPal Debuts Biometric And Smartwatch Integration With Samsung
Fancy being able to use fingerprints to enable payment verification on PayPal for making purchases?
Having announced that feature with the Samsung Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress back In February, PayPal finally debuted that integration today — letting users in 25 different countries login to PayPal by simply placing one of their chubby digits on their brand new phone’s fingerprint sensor.
It’s interesting because it shows what can be done when fingerprint sensors are opened up to developers — something Apple has been very reticent about doing with the iPhone 5s, despite Apple’s apparent interest in mobile payments. Of course, it will be time (and more accurately hackers) who will show whether Samsung’s security is up to the task of protecting your PayPal account.
PayPal is also debuting an app for letting Samsung’s Gear 2 and Gear Fit users to check their PayPal balance, get payment notifications and access offers from local businesses.
