A Samsung press event scheduled for April 29 could deliver the first official unveiling of the new Galaxy S5 Zoom. The South Korean company’s invite, which features the tagline “Kapture the Moment,” suggests a photography-focused event just weeks after a new Galaxy Zoom smartphone was pictured out in the wild.

For a lot of smartphone users, the camera is one of the most important aspects of their device. It’s the only camera they ever use, and therefore it needs to be good. That’s why a handset like the Galaxy Zoom, which combines a smartphone with a traditional point-and-shoot camera, is ideal.

Of course, the Galaxy S4 Zoom was nowhere near as successful as the original Galaxy S4 — few smartphones were — but clearly there was a market for it; a market large enough to warrant a successor. And as we know from the leaked pictures, the Galaxy S5 Zoom is already on its way.

The Galaxy S5 Zoom appears to be thinner than its predecessor.

According to sources familiar with Samsung’s plans, the handset will feature a 4.8-inch HD display, a “hexa-core” processor that combines two 1.7GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores, and 2GB of RAM. It’s also expected to launch with the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat software pre-installed.

With those specifications, the Galaxy S5 Zoom will a huge improvement over its predecessor. According to early AnTuTu benchmarks, it scores more points than the Galaxy Note II, the Galaxy S4, and even the original HTC One. But of course, performance won’t necessarily be its priority– its cameras will.

SamMobile reports the device will have a 20.2-megapixel (5184×3888) camera sensor with 10x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, and a Xenon flash. That will be coupled with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.

Given that the Galaxy S5 Zoom has already been pictured, then, it seems highly likely that it will be the star of the show at Samsung’s April 29 event in Singapore. It kicks off at 11 a.m. local time, and we’ll bring you all the announcements as they happen.
