Google Camera update brings Remote Shutter button for Android Wear; Gmail update brings Drive integration

Google has started rolling out updates for its Google Camera and Gmail app bringing some minor usability enhancements to them. The update for Google Camera will allow users to use their Android Wear powered smartwatch as a remote shutter button for their smartphone or tablet’s camera.

Tapping on the shutter button will first start a 3-second countdown before actually snapping a picture. Users can also preview the image right on their watch but that’s about it.

The update for the Gmail app brings a faster auto completion process while inserting contacts and a streamlined Google Drive attachment feature. The latter will now allow users to attach files stored in Google Drive with just a single tap using the “Insert from Drive” option. This is much faster than the previous method where users first needed to select the “Attach” option, then use the File Picker to open up Drive and finally select the file they want to attach.

The updates for both apps are rolling out in stages so it might not show up immediately on your devices. If you are too impatient though, you can always grab the APKs from below and install them manually.
