Lollipop scheduled to hit Google Play Edition HTC Ones this Friday
HTC hopes to begin its Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout for Google Play Edition handsets this Friday, November 21. Both the One M7 and the One M8 will be blessed by the new software on the same day if everything goes to plan, according to HTC Vice President of Product Management, Mo Versi.
Versi initially promised that Lollipop would be reaching HTC’s Google Play Edition devices early this week, however, the rollout “got delayed,” according to an update published on Twitter, and the Taiwanese company is now planning a release this Friday. Versi says that HTC is “working aggressively to get [the update] out as quickly as possible.”
It’s worth noting, however, that Versi says Friday’s launch is HTC’s “new target,” which doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed. So long as the company doesn’t run into any further interruptions, those with a One M7 or One M8 Google Play Edition handset should have Lollipop by the weekend — but you shouldn’t be too disappointed if it takes longer than that to get the software ready.
If the update does arrive Friday, it will make the HTC One lineup one of the first third-party smartphone families to get Lollipop following its public launch earlier this month. Only a handful of devices have it so far, including the new Moto X and Moto G, the LG G3, and of course, Google’s own Nexus smartphones.
