LG G4 may have a 3K display with a crazy 600 pixels-per-inch

When it comes to smartphone displays, LG likes to be a step ahead of its rivals. It was one of the first to offer a 2K panel in last year’s flagship G3, and it may well be the first to deliver a 3K panel with a mind-blowing 600 pixels-per-inch with the upcoming G4.

Now, you’re probably thinking that’s crazy — and you’d be absolutely right. We don’t need 3K displays in our pockets; the world still hasn’t caught up with 2K mobile devices. But the higher the resolution, the better the specs sheet looks, right?

That seems to be LG’s thinking, it would seem. A device codenamed the LG-VS9985 with a 2880×1620 resolution was spotted in a user agent profile by the website MyLGPhones. It’s thought to be Verizon’s variant of the upcoming G4.

MyLGPhones points out, however, that “this evidence should be taken with a pinch of salt,” given that user agent profiles are easy to manipulate.

For now, then, we shouldn’t read too much into, but given LG’s penchant for being a little different, we definitely shouldn’t rule it out, either. If you really, really want a smartphone with a 3K display, hold onto your cash for a few months.
