The LG G Watch R is already one of the prettiest Android Wear watches you can buy, but you might be surprised to find it looks even better when you sand off its black coating. What you’re left with is the silver stainless steel in all its glory, and it looks great with a metal strap.

These pictures were uploaded to Google+ by Anthony B, who says he used fine sandpaper to remove the black paint on his G Watch R before adding a metal strap. It’s unclear why Anthony did this, but he says he’s happy with how it turned out.

Personally, I think it looks much nicer than LG’s new Watch Urbane smartwatch, but of course, there are some caveats. If you look closely at the pictures, you’ll notice there are a lot of scratches left by the sandpaper, naturally, and LG is unlikely to repair it under warranty now.

But if you have the right tools and enough time, you should be able to polish those scratches out.

You’ll also notice Anthony hasn’t yet gotten around to removing the black paint and numbers from the around the display for fear of scratching the glass, but I quite like the contrast it provides.

You’ll need some nerve to try this yourself with a $300 watch, but if you do, good luck with it.
