OnePlus 2 will come with v2.1 of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset
OnePlus has confirmed in its official forums that the upcoming OnePlus 2 will come with a Snapdragon 810 chipset.
The Snapdragon 810 is the latest and greatest chipset from Qualcomm, and comprises of eight 64-bit cores in big.LITTLE configuration to deliver the best mix of battery life and performance. The chipset is also capable of streaming 4K videos, and comes with a powerful Adreno 430 GPU.
The Snapdragon 810 chipset is also found inside other high end devices of 2015, including the HTC One M9 and the LG G Flex 2. However, the chipset is known for overheating and being power hungry.
The situation is so bad that HTC, and much more recently, Sony, had to roll out updates to tweak the thermal management of their handsets powered by the Snapdragon 810 chipset.
Nonetheless, Pete promises that OnePlus has worked closely with Qualcomm to integrate a newer V2.1 chipset into the handset, which will make the OnePlus 2 run “cooler than ever.” So cool, in fact, that it won’t even get as warm as the original OnePlus One.
In addition, OnePlus has also worked on developing a proprietary technology for OxygenOS to make sure that the OS is better able to handle and distribute tasks between its low and high power cores.
OnePlus will continue revealing key specs of the OnePlus 2 piece by piece, like it had done with the OnePlus One last year.
