Samsung’s upcoming Gear A smartwatch will have a rotating bezel
Samsung has confirmed that its upcoming Gear A smartwatch will have a rotating bezel. Like the Apple Watch’s digital crown, the bezel will allow users to navigate menus, set alarms and timers, zoom in on images and maps, and more.
Samsung’s new Gear A smartwatch is expected to be a high-end device that will compete with rivals like the Moto 360, the Huawei Watch, and even the Apple Watch. It’ll be powered by Samsung’s own Tizen operating system — rather than Android Wear — and it’ll have a round display.
Recent Samsung documents have suggested the device will also have a rotating ring around its front edge for navigation — and now that the South Korean company has confirmed that will be the case.
In addition to the rotating ring, the Gear A is expected to pack a dual-core Samsung Exynos 3472 processor, 4GB of storage, a 250mAh battery, and a 360×360 display. At least one model could also offer 3G connectivity, so you’ll be able to use it without a connected smartphone.
We still don’t know when Samsung will make the Gear A official, but we’re hoping the device will appear at Samsung’s August 13 press event in New York City — alongside the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 edge+.
