Stagefright fixes rollout to Nexus, Samsung, Alcatel Onetouch devices
It may have taken them a little while, but manufacturers have begun rolling out important fixes for the Stagefright vulnerability that allows hackers to take over million of smartphones with a single text message.
In addition to Google’s own Nexus handsets, updates are also being issued to a number of Samsung’s latest Galaxies, and will be coming soon to the Idol 3 from Alcatel Onetouch.
The full list of handsets receiving Stagefight fixes today include:
- Nexus 5
- Nexus 6
- Galaxy S6
- Galaxy S6 edge
- Galaxy Note edge
- Galaxy S5
So far, all of the updates rolling out today are through Sprint, so if you use another carrier, you’ll have to wait a little longer for them. But given the gravity of Stagefright, we don’t expect other carriers to keep us waiting too long.
Alcatel Onetouch has also confirmed today that it will be issuing a Stagefright fix for its new Idol 3 flagship. The update will reach all users in the U.S. “on or around August 10.
