Asus and Samsung, not Apple, have the fastest-charging smartphones
What’s the fastest-charging smartphone? It’s not an iPhone. If you care about how fast your phone goes from 0 percent to fully juiced, you should buy an Asus Zenfone 2 or Samsung Galaxy S6. Here’s why.
The guys (guydes?) over at Tom’s Guide recently conducted a survey of the fastest-charging smartphones. All smartphones have different-size batteries, so they took that into account. Then they wore the batteries down to 5 percent and took the test from there, noting the charge level after 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes. Finally, they noted how long it took to charge the battery to 80 percent and 100 percent.
So here’s how things panned out. When it comes to getting short bursts of juice into the battery fastest, the Asus Zenfone 2 comes out on top, giving you 32 percent power in just 15 minutes of charging. That’s fantastic.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S6 will charge to 100 percent fastest, hitting full battery after 1 hour and 22 minutes. That’s partly because the battery is relatively small by Android standards, coming in at just 2,550 mAH.
And here’s where it gets really bad for Apple fans. The iPhone 6? Despite having a relatively small capacity 1,810-mAH battery, it took two hours and 35 minutes to recharge an iPhone 6 from 0 percent to 100 percent. That’s almost twice as long as the Samsung Galaxy S6.
That’s insane, although presumably a slower charge rate helps Apple put less strain on the battery over time. Still, this is clearly an area in which Apple can improve. Maybe for the iPhone 7?
