LG’s new Nexus 5 leaks out in black — with bad news
LG’s brand new Nexus 5 has been pictured again ahead of its official debut, this time in black. Before you get too excited, however, you should know that this leak is accompanied by bad news that may well put you off this particular Nexus altogether.
We’ve already seen the new Nexus 5, which some say will be named the “Nexus 5X,” countless times in white — but this is the first time we’ve seen a promotional image featuring the black option. It’s also the first time we’ve seen the front of this device, which looks to be sporting stereo speakers.
According to the original source of the image below, the new Nexus 5 will carry Qualcomm’s hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor just as expected, plus a 12.3-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, a 2,700mAh battery, and support for Cat.6 LTE.
Recent rumors have promised us a 13-megapixel camera, but that’s not the disappointment. The source of this image also claims that the new Nexus 5 will have just 2GB of RAM.
That’s not exactly what we would expect from a flagship Android device in 2015; the latest offerings from Samsung, Motorola, LG, and even OnePlus bring at least 3GB, and some even offer 4GB. As Android apps and games become more and more sophisticated, we could struggle with less than that.
We should bear in mind, however, that none of this is confirmed right now. The image is said to have come from an internal presentation slide, but it could well be a fan-made mockup.
Don’t read too much into this for now, then. We’ll find out for certain what the new Nexus 5 will bring on September 29 when Google makes it official.
