HTC rolls out Marshmallow for One M8 Google Play Edition
It may be arriving a little later than originally promised, but Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now on its way to the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition. Users can look forward to using what is essentially the same software now shipping with Google’s latest Nexus smartphones.
HTC Product Manager Mo Versi announced in early October that Marshmallow would be reaching the One M8 by the end of the month. That didn’t happen in the end due to a technical delay, but users haven’t had to wait too much longer, with the update now rolling out to all.
If you haven’t already received an update notification, you can try searching for the release manually from with the software update section of the Settings app. Because Google Play Edition (GPE) devices come unlocked without carrier branding, the software should reach all users at once.
Everything you would expect from a stock Marshmallow upgrade is included in this release, including a whole bunch of under-the-hood improvements, and Doze, Google’s new power management feature that greatly improves battery life on almost any Android device.
The update weighs in at around 450MB, and requires at least 50 percent battery life to install, so it might be a good idea to top up your device while the update is downloading to save a delay. And remember, it’s always a good idea to backup your most important data before installing any big upgrade — just in case.
