OnePlus seeks beta testers for OnePlus 2’s Marshmallow upgrade
OnePlus is now seeking beta testers who can sample and provide feedback on its upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for the OnePlus 2. Interested parties will need to fill out a questionnaire to register their interest, and meet the strict eligibility criteria.
OnePlus is currently targeting OnePlus 2 owners in China, who will have received their device with Hydrogen OS pre-installed. This is essentially Oxygen OS — the software OnePlus 2 owners get in other markets — but without Google’s Play Services framework and apps.
You can still apply to take part in the beta, but it’s unclear if any OnePlus 2 owners outside of China will be accepted at this time; we may have to wait for the Marshmallow beta to reach other markets. You can always try, of course… providing you meet the eligibility criteria.
That includes being a fan of Hydrogen OS, spending at least 30 hours a week online, accepting software updates every two weeks, and having some experience in using beta ROMs already. You will also have to submit timely feedback and bug reports, and tell no one about Marshmallow for the OnePlus 2.
If you’re accepted, you’ll become a member of the Hydrogen OS beta group, which provides you with a “Medal of Honor” in the forum, early access to Marshmallow (obviously), priority access to new peripherals and OnePlus products, and more.
You have until 12 p.m. on January 25 to apply for beta access, and OnePlus will let you know whether you’re in by 5 p.m. on January 26.
OnePlus promised back in November that Marshmallow would be available for the OnePlus One and the OnePlus by the end of Q1 2016 (the end of March). This beta suggests the company is on track to deliver that promise — at least for OnePlus 2 owners in China.
We’ll let you know when there’s an Oxygen OS beta available for other markets, or for those with a OnePlus One or OnePlus X.
