Massive leak gives us the Galaxy S7 in all its glory
Smartphone leaks don’t come much bigger than this.
Less than a week before it makes its official debut, the Galaxy S7 has appeared in all its glory. The photos and video below give us our best glimpse so far at the handset’s improved design, and new features — including the return of expandable storage.
Just as expected, the Galaxy S7 looks a lot like its predecessor, but it is now sporting a curved glass back and a slimmer camera that has a smaller hump. Android Authority, which obtained these images, confirms it will be water-resistant, too.
They also promise the Galaxy S7 will have a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera — down from 16-megapixels — but with larger pixels that deliver better photos, especially in low-light. The device will also pack a 2,800mAh battery, up from 2,550mAh in the Galaxy S6.
The photo above also gives us our first look at the Galaxy S7’s SIM tray, which includes space for a microSD card. Last year’s Galaxy flagships did not offer expandable storage, much to the disappointment of Samsung fans, but the company has addressed the complaints this year.
The Galaxy S7 will be Samsung’s first smartphone that comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed. We get a taster of that in the short video below.
One feature the Galaxy S7 will be missing is USB-C, with Samsung choosing to stick with micro-USB instead. That will surely please some fans who have plenty of micro-USB cables lying around, but it’s a disappointment to those who were hoping for the improved standard.
Samsung will make the Galaxy S7 official alongside the S7 edge on Sunday, February 21 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The device is also expected to pack a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a pressure-sensitive display like the iPhone’s.
