Samsung now beta testing Gear smartwatch support on iPhone
Samsung has finally begun beta testing a Gear Manager app for iOS that will allow its Gear smartwatches to communicate with the iPhone. The test, which will conclude on September 19, hints that a public launch is now close.
Samsung first confirmed it would make its Gear S2 smartwatch compatible with iPhone way back in January, while a March report claimed a Gear Manager app for iOS was imminent. Five months on, we’re still waiting — but now Samsung is finally doing something.
SamMobile has noticed that the South Korean company has begun beta testing a Gear Manager app for iOS with support for not only the standard Gear S2, but also the Gear S2 with cellular connectivity, and the new Gear Fit 2, its latest activity tracker.
Anyone can register their interest in the beta, but bear in mind that the survey you must complete before receiving an invite is in Korean (so good luck with that). You must also have an iPhone running iOS 8.4 or later to take part.
The beta test ends on September 19, and a public launch of Gear Manager for iOS should take place soon after — providing Samsung doesn’t run into any major hiccups.
