Google’s $1 billion London HQ is absolutely ostentatious
Google has no plans to move out of London following Brexit. In fact, the search giant is building a brand new headquarters in Kings Cross that’s going to cost well over $1 billion.
It’s no Spaceship campus, but under renders suggest it will be incredibly ostentatious, with its own swimming pool, basketball court, running track, and more.
Planned by Bjarke Ingels Group and Heatherwick Studios, the new “landscraper” will stand 11 stories tall, accommodating around 7,000 Google employees.
Google’s plan is to create a “super campus” by combining the new building with its existing Kings Cross office around the corner, and a third construction. Providing all goes as planned, it will be the first building wholly owned by Google outside the U.S.
“The area is a fascinating collision of diverse building types and spaces and I can’t help but love this mix of massive railway stations, roads, canals and other infrastructure all layered up into the most connected point in London,” said a spokesperson for Heatherwick.
“Influenced by these surroundings, we have treated this new building for Google like a piece of infrastructure too, made from a family of interchangeable elements which ensure that the building and its workspace will stay flexible for years to come.”
In addition to an Olympic-sized swimming pool and basketball court, the building will incorporate a five-a-side soccer pitch, a landscaped garden roof, and third-party stores. The render below highlights the sheer size of it.
