Android users still flocking to iPhone at an impressive rate
Android owners are still ditching their handsets for an iPhone at an impressive rate.
New research reveals that up to 20 percent of iPhone buyers each quarter are switching from Google devices. The iPhone SE is one of the most popular models among former Android fans, but there’s a lot of love for larger Apple devices, too.
Apple has previously boasted about how many Android users are switching to iPhone. It seems the rate peaked soon after the company finally ditched 4-inch screens and introduced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, some of its best-selling handsets to date.
Three years on, however, the rate of switchers hasn’t fallen much at all.
iPhone still popular among former Android fans
The latest data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, which comes from a survey of 2,000 customers in the U.S., reveals that former Android users typically account for around 15 to 20 percent of iPhone sales each quarter.
Quite a lot of them like Apple’s most affordable handset.
“They purchase the smaller, less-expensive iPhone SE at twice the rate as iPhone owners,” CIRP reports. “The former Android users gravitate to the lowest-priced iPhone models, which makes sense to us, with Android phones offering a wide range of models, many at relatively low-price points.”
This suggests Apple’s new 6.1-inch iPhone, which is expected to arrive alongside the refreshed iPhone XI and iPhone XI Plus this fall, could help boost the rate of Android switchers once again.
The iPhone X lookalike is expected to be a more affordable alternative to Apple’s flagship models, with an LCD display and Face ID, but no 3D Touch.
However, almost 40 percent of switchers opt for larger iPhone Plus devices, which also makes sense when you consider that the vast majority of Android devices have large screens.
