Fortnite 10.10 revives Retail Row, adds new World Run LTM
Fortnite’s version 10.10 patch is out after a 24-hour delay. The new release revives Retail Row in Battle Royale — and adds a brand new World Run limited-time game mode.
There’s also a whole bunch of big improvements and fixes to look forward to, including welcome adjustments to the B.R.U.T.E. mech.
This week’s update is the most significant patch Fortnite has seen since the launch of its tenth season earlier this month. And it makes huge changes to one of this season’s most controversial vehicles.
The B.R.U.T.E. hasn’t disappeared altogether yet (unfortunately). But Battle Royale fans will be pleased to know that Epic Games is working on making it a little less horrible.
Fortnite 10.10 makes big B.R.U.T.E. changes
One of the first things you’ll notice about the B.R.U.T.E. is its new targeting laser. Visible to both teammates and opponents, the laser makes it easier to see exactly where the mech is aiming its missiles.
B.R.U.T.E.s abandoned in the storm will now self-destruct after 30 seconds, and those left behind by players will show up on the minimap again 15 seconds after being vacated.
Mechs can no longer be used to traverse the map faster than intended, and the turn rate of the vehicle is no longer dependent on a player’s framerate.
Finally, it’s now possible to enter into a B.R.U.T.E. directly from glider mode — you don’t have to land first and then get into it.
Retail Row is back!
Now, on to more exciting changes. Retail Row has returned to Battle Royale thanks to a new Rift Zone. It replaces the futuristic Mega Mall that took its place in season nine — but there’s a catch.
Retail is now filled with fiend spawns, and hordes of them will charge at you if you stick around too long. But they cannot leave the Rift Zone, so dipping out of Retail will allow you to lose any chasers.
Eliminate the fiends and they’ll drop weapons, consumables, and other items.
World Run LTM
This week’s limited-time game mode is the brand new World Run. It requires you to dip, dodge, and duck through treacherous traps, lava pits, and more to become the fastest lane runner.
This mode sees 16 players divided into four teams competing for the victory. The fastest team to collect 30 coins is crowned the winner, and respawn is enabled.
Other changes in Fortnite 10.10
There are a whole host of other changes and improvements in this week’s patch. We can’t list them all here, but we have picked out some highlights:
- There’s now a tutorial system designed to guide players who are new to Battle Royale. It will display helpful tips during matches, and each one will appear during a situation it is most relevant to. It’s on by default, but can be disabled.
- Auto-fire now works correctly on mobile when you have the bush equipped.
- A crash caused by putting your iOS device to sleep for more than 10 seconds has been fixed.
- Memory usage has been optimized on iOS to improve stability.
- CPU rendering optimized on Nintendo Switch to improve framerate when a large numbers of objects are visible.
