Google has revealed its latest foray into TV hardware: Chromecast, a 2-inch dongle you plug into your TV’s HDMI port to stream cloud-based video from your smartphone, tablet or PC.

The tiny $35 piece of hardware, unveiled today at an Android press event in San Francisco, runs a simplified version of Chrome and is powered via USB. Chromecast support has already been built into apps like Netflix and YouTube, but Google is also releasing a Google Cast SDK that will allow developers to build Chromecast support directly into their apps.

Apple just released it’s Q3 2013 earnings report and even though iPhone sales were up to 31.2 million units in the quarter, compared to 26 million last quarter, the company only posted a net profit of $6.9 billion. Samsung on the other hand reported that it made $8.33 billion in profit during the same quarter.

Apple reported a profit of $8.8 billion and $35 billion in revenue in the third quarter of 2012, so profit is still down and revenue growth is flat. The company’s year-over-year net profit shrank for the first time in a decade last quarter.

Porn star James Deen and his accomplice Andy San Dimas released a NSFW trailer that parodies how incredibly “futuristic” it will be to use X-ray vision, Google searches and facial recognition while getting it on.

Here’s the trailer:

New features on the Nexus 7 will include a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, a 1.2MP front-facing camera, a 5MP rear-facing camera, wireless charging, Slim Port support and Android 4.3.

The Nexus 7 will keep its 7-inch display, but it’s not clear if the screen resolution will get a bump. All the details of the new tablet will likely be revealed at Google’s event on July 24th with Sundar Pichai.

Nokia’s decision to only make Windows smartphones has been heavily scrutinized ever since CEO Stephen Elop made the announcement in 2011. Why go with Microsoft’s new platform when Android was already better established?

In a recent interview Elop revealed the reason Nokia didn’t switch to Android was because they felt it was going to get dominated by one company: Samsung.
