Google just sent press invitations out for an event to be held on July 24th, hosted by Android and Chrome chief Sundar Pichai.

Other than stating “Please join us for breakfast with Sundar Pichai,” the invitation doesn’t betray any details about what Google’s announcing, but it’s a strong possibility that we’ll get a look at the next build of Android.

Not much is known regarding Google’s plans for Android 4.3, so we’ll have to see what kind of surprises Sundar has up his sleeves. The event starts at 9AM PT and will be livestreamed on YouTube

We got our first look of the redesigned Google Maps at Google I/O in May. Since then the project has been in closed beta for invitees only, but Google announced today that it is opening up the new Google Maps beta to all users.

The new Google Maps will come with a simplified UI, as well as new features like real-time traffic, dynamic re-routing, reviews from Zagat and there will even be a dedicated Google Maps app for iPad.  To get access all you have to do is sign-up over at maps.google.com/preview. If you hate it, you can always switch back.

Here’s the original preview video of the new features:

Verizon has started to send members of the press invites to an event hosted in New York City on July 23rd. According to the invite, Verizon says it will “unveil the next generation of one of [its] most popular family of devices,” which probably means it will introduce the next line of Droids at the event.

Motorola is expected to release at least three new Droid phones – Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini – to replace the line up of the Droid RAZR HD, RAZR Maxx HD, and RAZR M that were introduced last summer.

Here’s what we know about the three phones so far:

tinder

Since launching on the iPhone last October, Tinder has made some waves in the online dating scene by providing an online dating game for iOS users. If you feel like you’ve been missing out, you’ll be happy to know it finally arrived on Google Play today, giving Android users access to all the awkward app dating fun that has been strictly an iOS-only affair.

Tinder offers a game-ified approach to flirting in a format that’s a lot like Hot or Not. You sign up with your Facebook profile and add a few pictures to your profile. Then you swipe through profile cards of other Tinder users who are nearby and hit “like” or “pass” based on whether they’re physically appealing enough to you.

If you both like each other’s card you’re setup as a match and can chat, flirt, and do whatever kind of ungodly things two people who hook up via an app do. If not, well everything stays anonymous and no one’s the wiser.

You can pick Tinder up from Google Play for free starting today.

controlcenterandroid

Curious to see what the next version of iOS will be like but don’t have an iPhone? Now there’s an app on Google Play called Control Center that brings the iOS 7 Control Center user experience to Android phones.

The app functions pretty much identical to the Control Center found on iOS 7 except it’s more customizable. Swipe up from the bottom of your device and you get quick access to toggles for Wifi, Bluetooth, volume, a flash light, camera, and a couple of other basic functions.

The download is free in Google Play right now so if you’ve been eyeing some of the new iOS 7 features, here’s how to get one of them with out having to spend a cent on a new iPhone.
