Even though we love the HTC One, there are really only two smartphone manufacturers in the world right now that matter: Apple and Samsung. The two companies have been fighting for every square inch of the global smartphone market, and have managed to take all of the profits in the process.

A new report from Canaccord Genuity shows that while some manufacturers made improvements in the March quarter of 2013, Apple and Samsung still account for 100% of the industry’s profits, with Apple taking 57% and Samsung snatching up the remaining 43%.

Google-Glass

Google Glass has been getting a lot of attention recently for it’s futuristic take on wearable computing. Apple’s iWatch has got people intrigued, but it turns out that Google has been working on a watch of its own, just incase Google Glass is a little bit too weird for people.

Patents filed by Google in 2011 show that the company has been working on a wearable wrist computer. The Google Watch concept describes two touchpads on a wristband that work intandem to undertand gestures like Google has on the Google Glass pad.

Google Glass is the future of technology. Maybe. But for most of us, it will be at least 6-12 months before we ever get to touch Google’s futuristic piece of headwear. In the meantime, Google wants to make sure everyone is prepped in advance and knows how to use Glass so it’s making a series of videos to get you up to speed.

Google just released its first instructional video for Glass on its new Google Glass YouTube channel . The video, titled “Glass How-to: Getting Started,” covers the basics on how to use Glass. It briefly runs down features like the TouchPad, cards, sharing photos, navigation, etc. Sadly, it doesn’t cover how to not look like a weirdo while wearing Glass.

Swype

There are a few options for keyboards on Android, buy Swype has been one of the most popular over the last few years. Now, it’s finally ready to get out of beta and into primetime.

The developers of Swype, Nuance, announced today that they are dropping the “beta” tag from Swype with the latest version 1.5 update. Swype 1.5 doesn’t really have any big new features, other than a little UI polishing and better Dragon Mobile Assistant tie-ins, but Nuance is going to start charging for it.

The future of computing might be in wearable computers like Google Glass and the rumored Apple iWatch, but you’re still going to have to wait before getting to try them out.

Google has never commented on a launch date for Google Glass, but Eric Schmidt says it’s not that far away. In an interview for BBC Radio 4’s “World at One” today, Schmidt says that he thinks the consumer version of Google Glass is “probably a year-ish away.”
