Yes, it’s only December, and no, it’s never too early to start thinking about the next Google I/O. Grab your permanent markers and X off May 15-17 on your calenders. Wait a minute… what am I talking about, no one uses paper calendars anymore. Okay, mark your Google calenders, set your reminders, follow the hashtag #io13, and start saving your money, because Google I/O 2013 is only 162 days away.

The International Data Corporation has published its most recent mobile market forecast and unsurprisingly, they’re predicting Android to maintain its strong market share lead over the next four years. In fact, there’s really not much surprising about the report at all.

Another round of sales for the Nexus 4 are scheduled to take place via the UK Play store at 5pm GMT. That gives you a few minutes to grab some popcorn, a frosty drink, and prepare for some F5 finger action. Hopefully Google has straightened out its server issues or whatever issues they were having and this round goes off without a hitch.

Facebook is changing the policy of requiring a Facebook account for Facebook Messenger and will now allow users to sign up using only their name and phone number. This change is an attempt to bolster Messenger usage by attracting users who want an SMS alternative but aren’t interested in joining a social network to get it.

If you’re a Verizon customer, you’ll want to be on the lookout for an email or text message from asking if you’d be willing to share your data usage (location, web browsing and mobile application usage data) in return for coupons or “rewards.” This sort of data farming for advertisers is nothing new in today’s world, but always a bit unsettling.
