Laaaaaaaaaaadies and Gentlemen, welcome to Friday Night Fights, a new series of weekly deathmatches between two no-mercy brawlers who will fight to the death — or at least agree to disagree — about which is better: Apple or Google, iOS or Android?

After this week’s topic, someone’s going to be spitting teeth. Our question: What’s Better? The iPhone’s 3.5-Inch Display, or Android’s 4+ Inch Superphones?

In one corner, we have the 900 pound gorilla, Cult of Mac; in the opposite corner, wearing the green trunks, we have the plucky upstart, Cult of Android!

Place your bets, gentlemen! This is going be a bloody one.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — It doesn’t yet have a name (Asus Eee Pad MeMO ME370T) but it does have a price point. Asus just announced a 7-inch tablet based on NVidia’s quad-core Tegra 3 chip and running Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich.

That’s an Android Fire price point but a boatload more horsepower. The Tegra 3 already runs Asus’s Transformer Prime tablet/PC, which is getting good reviews for performance.

Asus also announced an Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Transformer Prime, claiming it’s the first tablet to run the latest version of Google’s OS.

CES will bring out all the big players in the mobile processor game, each ready to flaunt the power, speed, and overall performance of their mobile processing chips. We’re going to give you a look at a few of the major players and what they plan to bring to the CES table. This year’s buzz word should be “quad-core,” and we’re hoping to see plenty of it (hopefully on phones).

With CES only a few weeks away, we’re preparing ourselves for what is surely going to be an Android extravaganza. With Android activations surpassing 700,000 devices per day, it would be unwise for any company to ignore its strong market presence. This leads us to believe CES 2012 will be chock full of Android goodness. We’re going to dive into a few products and announcements we expect to see this year, along with a few things we’re keeping our fingers crossed about.

Andy Rubin, SVP of Mobile at Google, recently announced that Android now sees 700,000 activations per day. The last time he gave such an update was in June of 2011, when Android was seeing 500,000 activations per day.
