There has been some speculation since Google announced Chromecast from a number of Google TV users as they firmly believe that this is the final nail in the internet TV services coffin. However, the senior vice president of Google, Sundar Pichai, has high hopes for the service and is convinced that Google TV will evolve alongside Chromecast and neither device will substitute the other.

Google unveiled Chromecast at its San Francisco breakfast event less than 48 hours ago, a device which enables you to “cast” music, movies, and photos from your computer, smartphone or tablet, directly to your HD TV. However, if you’re using a desktop you can only display your screens content if you are using Chrome, and now Google has released the official Cast extension to empower you to do just that.

Google’s wonderful new dongle has some really cool features, but have you wondered what kind of hardware is powering Chromecast?

FCC documents for the Chromecast include a couple of pictures with its casing removed. Packed inside is a Marvell DE3005 chip, plus an Azurewave chip to handle Wifi at 2GHz.

Google has updated its Play Movies and Play Music applications on Google Play bringing the ability to stream 1080p video directly to a Chromecast unit, from a device running Android 4.3.

After Google unveiled the Chromecast earlier today, it sold out in minutes on the Play Store. The $35 dongle just became available for sale on Amazon, and it’s Prime-eligible, which is a nice plus.

Snag one (or more) of these fast before they sell out again. Google is bundling three free months of Netflix with each purchase, so it basically pays for itself. Chromecast streams video, music, photos, and more from any iOS, Android, or PC device running the Chrome browser to a HDTV over HDMI.
